Toeing in

My phone hasn't rang in months. I know I shouldn't say that because it makes me sound privileged but for whatever reason ever since the summer of no fun...my phone rang steady for a good six months...sadly each potential adoption situation was more twisted than the last.

But I have had a bit of a lull....I called my lawyer (my friend) and joked about the silence, but she too agreed.

I guess I'm putting out to the universe to air my small fear that there are no more babies to adopt, I know that is ridiculous but seriously it's a baby drought for sure. I just pray every day that someone calls from the hospital and says come meet your baby. It's really the best scenario...I really don't want to go through that shitshow again. But, of course I will.

Lately that I have been starting to gather decorating ideas again. During our situation, shopping for the baby's room and spending hours outside painting soothed my frazzled nerves. I think I'm ready again.

I have been taking some times visiting  thrift stores again for wood pieces and took this cloud idea from a store I was shopping at yesterday.

Aren't they killer?

I also saw this article about gender reveal cakes. http://ow.ly/YP0iF We were so excited about having the first girl in seven children, we ran from the sonogram screaming, that was our reveal. Maybe this time we will be creative, but maybe (hopefully) we will have zero time to tell anyone anything. We are ready.

Have a good weekend xx

Dreams do come true

Greetings from the greatest city on the planet!!! I'm writing you from the Long Island Railroad, DNCE in my ears (obsessed by the way) on my way into the concrete jungle. I'm indeed challenging the whole city that doesn't sleep as I'm on a 530 am train.

I have to be in the office by 8:45. Did you hear what I said? I am working in the city today!!! It only took 42 years and here I am the urbandite I have created in my own head. Of course I'm having a little anxiety because my luggage is in the aisle, but thankfully it's light.

OH IT'S FREAKING POURING!!!!!!  That's the epitome of life huh... but I'm not gonna let anymore rain on my parade... today is gonna be a great day and I'm excited to sit in an office for the first time in years oh and I get to have some avocado toast.... Who is luckier than me?!

I'm staying in the financial district. Although this is very near to my favorite landmark South Street Seaport , I don't know too much about the area... so a little 630 exploring is on agenda. After coffee of course. From a bodega.

A Night at the Races

It is race week in Daytona. A time for fun and friends and a ton of great memories with a chance to make new ones.

Every Friday night of the truck races there is a Girls Night Out which is a wonderful event in the new suites at Daytona International Speedway which are gorgeous! I got a sneak peak earlier in the week when I helped my girlfriend analyze the room, check out the GORGEOUS view!

I loaded up my friend Kaylee and her most fabulous self and off we went to the suite.

It is also always a big discussion of what to wear to this event. I am just a big fan of comfort which I think can be glammed up pretty easily. I am the lucky one and I don't take advantage of this as much as I should like but my "Aunt" Spoony owns My Adornments which is an amazing Boutique & Shoe Salon in Ormond Beach and I paid her a visit. I walked in and would like to think I receive special privileges (let me have my moment) but I know that everyone who shops at My Adornments gets insane personalized treatment.

Look what we ended up with:

I am in big trouble because I now want this BACI Batwoman Silk Shirt in every damn color. I must have them all. Paired with Paige Denim Jimmy Jimmy Skinny Boyfriend Jeans and my new Free People 'Braeburn' Belted Split Shaft Booties, I was on my way.

Can you please look at this necklace line? I am OBSESSED. They are made by women in Bali, so its a charitable investment (see how I can talk myself into any purchase) Its GORGEOUS!

Here is the finished product with my girls, I love them so.

All Hail Taylor

I try not to watch the Grammy's..because I become that very old version of my former self. Nose scrunched, lips pursed not really understanding what or who is going on at all. But I have to say this one was pretty good! I especially loved Taylor Swift's speech I am really glad she took advantage of the RIDICULOUS press regarding Kayne's album. In case you missed it:

Taylor is one of my favorite artists. I had the great pleasure of being at her meet and greet about three years ago. After meeting her, I received a handwritten thank you note a week later wishing me well on my upcoming wedding. Many an artist could learn a thing or two from her genuine nature. Yay for your Grammy accolade!

Little Black Initiative presented by the Junior League of Daytona Beach

We were featured in the Daytona Beach News Journal here.

Little Black Dress Initiative to Raise Human Trafficking Awareness

MAKE HUMAN TRAFFICKING UNFASHIONABLE

From February 15 through February 19, women across Volusia County will be wearing the same dress for 5 days in a row to exemplify the complete lack of possessions (including clothing!) most human trafficking victims have with them when they are rescued. The Volusia County women will be wearing pins with the above image and distributing educational materials designed to raise awareness of this problem.

Human Trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. Its victims are subjected to force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of commercial sex or forced labor. They are young children, teenagers, men and women. Trafficking in persons occurs throughout the world, including the United States. Human trafficking is both pervasive and profitable. Current estimates are that there are 20-30 million slaves worldwide and that 80% of slave trafficking is for sexual exploitation. Human trafficking is the third largest international crime industry (behind illegal drugs and arms trafficking). It reportedly generates profits of $32 billion every year. Of that number, $15.5 billion is made in industrialized countries. Not many people are aware that 3,287 people are sold or kidnapped and forced into slavery every day. That's 136 an hour and that's just the reported cases. Most of these are children and most of them are sold repeatedly for sex.  Again, it's a little known fact but it's real and it's happening all around us -- even here in Volusia County. In 2015 there were 43 cases of human trafficking of minors in Circuit 7 and 34 of them were located right here in Volusia County.

The Junior League of Daytona Beach currently provides backpacks filled with clothing, hygiene items, and a few extra personal pieces to local law enforcement to distribute to these victims so they can begin to rebuild their lives with basic necessities after being pulled from these dangerous situations.

In February 2014, the Junior League of London pioneered the Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) with the goal to "Make Poverty Unfashionable." While their fellow Londoners were attending London Fashion Week that month, local Junior Leaguers were wearing the same black dress every day to work, parties, dinners and events to raise funds and increase awareness of poverty in the city. The first campaign was so successful that they decided to take the initiative worldwide.

LONDON CALLED; DAYTONA BEACH ANSWERED.

Five things for a Friday

It's here! Good ole Friday!

1. I am looking forward to this weekend! Race Week is here! Valentine's Day is Sunday! My uncle comes Monday! Yay!

2. In reference to above, I have succeeded in getting the most dialed in Valentine's Day present to date. A cutting board. Yup. Oh and I went to three different golf courses and bought three rounds of golf. But still. I. Bought. My. Husband. A. Cutting. Board. For. Valentine's. Day.

3.  I hope my purchases from the Who What Wear Collection from Target comes in today. It is really not fair that we didn't even get anything at our podunk Target and I had to order online. This may be shocking but I ordered two white tops, two black tops, a Navy blouse (whooo) and this awesome striped number.

 4. This week has been very liberating with work. I also had a great appointment for some future business!

5.Wishing you a wonderful weekend full of love and kitchen items

xx

That Doesn't Work for Me

If you work the corporate grinder, sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do. The one benefit of working for yourself is usually there are ways to get you out of those kind of situations. I wouldn't suggest being impervious to any stress or hard work but you, as a business owner have the grand opportunity to say That Doesn't Work For Me.

I have an anxiety gage when it comes to this, if I am working with something or someone that gives me that tight chest, can't breathe feeling...I gotta go. Its not you, its me. Well, its you and you are not very kind but I have the great fortune of getting out because I don't have to satisfy anyone but myself when it comes to my own work environment.

That is a very powerful thought process to embrace and honestly it is scary as hell. I have been asked, "What-do you not want my money?" The answer although hard should always be no.

You come first, that is what this whole entrepreneur shit show is all about.

Karma....Does It Really Happen?

Do you believe in karma? Do you sit up at night waiting for it to happen or do you just let it go and let it be, assuming they will get theres? What if you move on but sometimes check her Facebook when you can't sleep secretly praying to see if she or her mother or her friend got hit by a bus? Is that the definition of moving on?

Sometimes it hard to believe that people could be so vile without recourse. It is a definite lesson in namaste when you can inhale the positivity and exhale the negativity. I am trying very hard. But, that is the only way I can meditate, even if it is for a couple of minutes. It is a trick I learned from a woman I follow on everything lately. Oh, and wine helps.

Balls, Dreams and Speeches.

Good Chilly Lazy Sunday!

Last night , the daddy daughter dance that the Junior League of Daytona Beach holds annually went off with very little fire chasing! I made one table mistake from 920 people so I consider that a win. Of course, the mistake was made with one very high maintenance father who really gave me a hard time. Better me, than one of the volunteers I guess. Sometimes people surprise me, complete loss of what is front of them. Getting angry over something like this is ridiculous... but there is one every year.

I was insanely busy most of the afternoon, and it occurred to me that...shit...I have to speak. Shit! So while the first guests were rolling in, I was scribbling furiously on a notepad. It actually went pretty great. Just a little intimidating...I had a lot of friends in the crowd. I can address 1000 strangers but throw some friends in the mix, it is a little nerve wrecking. But I got off the stage and did that little Veronica Corningstone fist shake in my head. Yes! Yes! Nailed it!

It's interesting the Sweetheart Ball is the very day that our adoption journey began. I woke up that Saturday morning three years ago after my fifth failed IUI and received a phone call that my oldest friend had miscarried at 12 weeks.  With tears streaming down my face, I called my best friend on the way to the Sweetheart Ball and told her I don't want to do it anymore...I want to start looking down the adoption road, What do I do?… Probably weird that I would talk to her before my husband but she had gone through the journey and could give me the best advice.

The next morning I took my husband to breakfast and asked him what he thought. That's the weird thing about relationships, it's first come love then comes marriage then comes the baby carriage...but when that baby carriage doesn't come, what then? I sat across from him realizing we never had this conversation...what if he like other husbands I know that want nothing to do with adoption. Luckily, he was on board and we began our journey. Bittersweet day....but I'm glad I have an AHA moment, when we are finally blessed it will be a great story to tell our son or daughter. The good parts only of course.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Five Things For A Friday

Ah! It is Friday! Hope everyone had a good week!

1. Day five of laying on the couch...I know that I am blessed to have a job who's boss lives within no feet of me, but its really hard not to call in sick turn your shit off and go back to bed for a week. Luckily, I had one appointment who cancelled and everyone stayed far far away.

2. Tomorrow night is the Sweetheart Ball. This is the signature daddy (or the like)/daughter event of the Junior League of Daytona Beach and I could not be happier at the way it is turning out. We have some amazing talent that are giving it their heart and soul for this event. It is amazing and humbling to watch and manage. Everyone is killing it and the effort is astonishing. This is gonna be a great event.

3. I have spent most of these last days cursing and pondering over a 900 person seating chart for tomorrow night's said Sweetheart Ball. All I have to worry about is that this process goes off without a hitch. You may ask whats the big deal, but I assure you this is a make or break portion of the event. Literally. If the Jones and the Smiths dont sit together for the 20 minutes they will lose. their. cussword. mind. Of course if the Jones says they wants to sit with the Smiths and the Smiths says they want to sit with the Browns and don't mention the Jones, you can see why one President has been in the corner in the fetal position for the last three days. Pray for me.

4.. Oh my gosh, I love Snapchat. I realize I have reached a crossroad with my friend. I now patiently answer questions about what else Olivia Newton John has done as I beg her to show me how to make me look like an aviator on Snapchat. Now that's a true friendship.

5. Booked my flight to NYC for my first travel for the Association of Junior League International. I can't believe I had to wait to my 40's to say. Oh, I have to travel to NYC for two days at the end of the month for work. (Hairflip)

Overheard: Well, if Caitlyn Jenner wanted to come to the SHB, would you allow her? -to a crazy cant cut the apron strings mother who threatened to sue my organization because no moms are allowed.

Can't Stop: Watching Grease Live. I am on time three and will watch it again today. I have cried and clapped like a person who should really get more sleep.

Thankful: For self employment and this medicine that has kept the cough out of my chest (although it makes me a little cranky)

Tomorrow's Goal:

The State of The Way It Is

This blog started a lot of things for me, and lately, it has been a little ignored. I have been literally in my own head all the time. I have been thinking of what I want to do with the content for some time. I realize that it is fun to talk about wine or local social events but I have a lot to say and I am certain there may be one or two of you out there that would be interested in my prattle. If not, I am sure there is an easy way to unsubscribe, ha ha. There is just a lot in my head, that I want to get on print. For me, for my well being, for my sanity....God help us all.
