‘Coffee with the Mayor’ Announced

This may be a small town utterance, but one of the best things about living in Ormond Beach Florida is our mayor, Ed Kelley. He is really one of the nicest people I know.

From the Ormond Beach Observer-Mayor Ed Kelley and Rick Fraser, executive director of the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce, are no longer going on the road.

In the past year, they traveled once per month to various businesses to keep lines of communication open between the business community and the city. They have recently decided it would be more efficient to have a group meeting in the board room at the Chamber of Commerce, 165 W. Granada Blvd. Starting April 13, they will meet in a new format called “Coffee with the Mayor.”

“We found that we could visit just so many businesses in an afternoon, and it was hard to arrange with our schedules,” Fraser said.

They plan on meeting at 8 a.m. on the second Monday of each month for about an hour. Fraser said Einstein Bros. Bagels, 110 S. Nova Road, has offered to supply bagels and coffee, and snacks will be provided by Edible Arrangements, 128 N. Nova Road.

Kelley said talking to the business executives gives him a good barometer on the local business community, and group discussions may spur new ideas.

Fraser said that in the past meetings, he found positive attitudes about the economy. “They were generally upbeat,” he said. “They were very happy about the new landscaping.”

He said the meetings are beneficial in finding ways to help the business community.

Fraser said if business people are interested in attending, they should call him at 677-3454.

Oh, Hey Blog...

So, if I look far back enough...it may be weeks and weeks where I actually blogged. Not bullshit blogged, or promotionally blogged, or love my charity blogged (which I do!). I truly have not utilized this blog, my passion for the one reason why I started this in the first place.

So, I went to my ladies at BlogHer and grabbed a writing prompt-because I just want to write SOMETHING!

How do you determine what is worth reporting from your life since not every moment of your day ends up on your blog?

Ooh this is a good one. My best friend just told me that she doesn't read blogs very often because "seriously how much can I read about someone rambling on and on about herself" Ha! It's a fine line, isn't it?

I mean, I have a ton of things I could tell you...partially because I don't want to forget this time in my life.

Like, do you what it feels like to countdown for something that is the biggest thing you have ever done? Eighty Nine days and my life will change. And, I can't really talk about it...so says my lawyer. And my anxiety... and my heart.

Or because of this, I have kidney stones. And some sort of gastro disease. And I haven't eaten in two days, without visiting vomit village. So, what if not everything does not end up on the blog? What, as a blogger is real, and what is only what I think you want to read. The struggle is real...ha ha!

I think that there is a fine line between diary and blog. I think a play by play would be boring, but there is also a lot of self serving stuff that needs to be left off your prattle. I am not Oprah and I am not that interesting.

Looking forward to a great weekend and I hope you all are too
xo

The High Heel Coalition Launches First Event with Sold Out Attendance

I am a very happy girl this morning! One of my favorite bloggers and authors, Kimberly Wilson in 2006 hosted a Chari-TEA and when I was chosen as one of her guest editors for her latest book Anthology  I was reminded of her event and thought what a great idea it would be if I could pull it off.

I had an idea of The High Heel Coalition, but sadly at first just the name and the logo..not a clue what I wanted to do with it. It occurred to me that our town in Volusia County could use an extra boost in fun events like Chari-TEA and other unique non-profit events. Ah! An idea and a plan! New venture launched!

The first event was yesterday, a Chari-TEA to benefit Dining For Women. It was held at Mia Dona's market, which is an adorable luncheonette that I wrote about here, run by the most generous soul Dona Olsen who graciously opened on a Saturday for us.

The response was overwhelming, it sold out in a week and we raised some serious cash for the cause! This makes for a great Saturday. Off to write Thank yous! Have a great Sunday!

Snappers, My New Addiction

You know I am smart enough to not give up chocolate for Lent, right? I don't crave it too much., anyway so that doesn't seem to be a big enough sacrifice. How thankful am I that I had the opportunity to try a couple bags of Snappers? I nearly ate a full bag in one sitting. Truly sad admission that this will get me near any bikini any time soon!  Snappers are the perfect blend of creamy caramel, rich chocolate, and the salty crunch of pretzels. Pick them up at your Target store and kill me later!

Five Reasons to Run (at all)

Today I linked up with Eat, Pray, Run DC and You Signed Up for What, and Mar on the Run for this fun Friday Five

Happy Friday! This morning, there is absolutely no heat in the air. I think we are finally getting some fall like mornings. This makes for the PERFECT running weather. I've told you before that I am not a big fan of running in very hot or very cold temps so this is right up my alley. It will be nice to get back in the swing of things. This Friday Five is easy for me, because there are so many reasons to run.

1. Amazing Attitude Adjuster-If you had a bad day, or you feel off-grab those running shoes and take a jaunt. I promise you will feel better. When you run, you force your body to exert excess energy and hormones. Bad stuff out, good stuff in.  You will find that after only a few minutes of running, your brain will start to secrete hormones that naturally improve your mood.

2. Time to figure the world out-I think a lot when I run, I hold conversations with myself and try to solve the world's problems one at a time. It keeps my mind off when I am ready to stop going another 1/2 mile.

3. Drink that Pumpkin Latte, eat that cake. Not in excess, of course, but you burn a great amount of calories when you take your jaunt! So, the moment on the lips lifetime on your bum mentality can be relaxed just a wee bit if you get that heart rate up.

4. Achieve Internal Goals. I am insanely competitive with myself when I run, I am sure this is annoying but I post my graph on Instagram and Twitter when I run to keep myself accountable. I know if I am going slow, I am not going out like a fool-I need to pick it up. I am surprised how hard I am on myself.

5. Music Music Ooh Ooh-NOTHING matches great jams than a good run. My running playlist makes me sad if I listen to it when I am not running. It is a nice mix of old school rap and new pop jams. And yes, sometimes I sing. Loudly. Actually, I always feel bad when I am running past those cute walking senior citizens and there is

For once some of the facts mentioned isn't drivel from my head, I found them here.
