Hate to be the bearer of bad news! But bigger is ALWAYS better! Are you ready for the biggest RITZ cracker that has ever existed! Go get some Big RITZ and pile on the toppings because they're only available for a limited time.

Big RITZ, big snacking!

THIS delicious recipe from Pix is exactly what I am going to do with these new RITZ crackers. Salami and Cream Cheese RollUps, could that sound any better?!

No Rainbows. No Butterflies. The Reality of a Failed Adoption.

We were very busy in the month of May and June preparing for a little bundle of joy. A baby girl that we spent six months waiting for. A successful quick placement with a birthmother who picked us to be parents of her unborn child. A girl. I wanted a girl so badly, our whole family has boys. This was meant to be.

Since December we have accompanied her to many doctors appointments, ran around town because she was out of money so many times I can't count. We paid her "phone bill" almost weekly, because did you know that Sprint bills are paid weekly? We got fired from one practice for noncompliance as we begged her please just go get your blood work. We gave her cash instead of taking her grocery shopping because she had to do this or that. Glaring red flags with one promise.

We were told over and over again by her, it will be tough but there is no way I can financially or physically support two children. Even thirty minutes before she went into labor. All a lie. Yes, there was indeed a way, we certainly helped and its soaked with emotional and financial extortion.

The birthfather gave her chlamydia and she was madder at that then the fact that he dumped her and threatened to kill her and shamed her on Facebook. I guess all is forgiven as she brought him their daughter this Sunday, his sixth child for the world to see. On Facebook. SO Sweet.

The circumstances made it a journey of all to be told:

The mother and the best friend, who paraded back and forth during labor and delivery on their fifty smoke breaks and giggled knowing all along they had convinced their daughter and their friend the unthinkable. But how funny are "those rich people" looking up each time, waiting for twelve hours... waiting for what was meant to be, what they contractually spent thousands and thousands of dollars for . What they wished for with every bone in their being to come to fruition because after a year of failed unexplained infertility at least with an adoption, you end up with a baby, right?

The letter I wrote to ensure her we would love this baby more than life itself, because apparently this was above said trash's point of contention.

The charge nurse who came out at 10p and said there was nothing she could do. Please. Leave.

The days after. The horrifying realization that you told everyone for the support and the prayers and now you had to untell people. Asking to not be bothered then wondering why certain people didn't ignore this advice and reach out to you anyways and getting mad all over again.

The door. That remains shut. Because behind it, although not full boat holds so many pieces of what was gonna make your family a reality. A cradle, oodles of clothes, a car seat...the start of a nursery.

Making appointments with the state atty instead of the infant photographer who spent days making the perfect poof.

The amazing friends who call and check in every day even knowing I don't want to be seen or spoke to. Even the girl who I have known for a week that was there for me because she also shared something horrible. The friend who made me two days of dinner and two bottles of wine. A girl I know not as well but adore dropping off even more wine with a note that was written from her soul.

My best friend who in a sick mirror of circumstances stood by my side the entire time, flooding back to what I am sure what was painful reminders of her losses, but reminding me that even miracles take a little time. Her gorgeous son was worth the wait. And, he is.

A former client who is going into my mothers house of hoards and helping me get the stuff of value out. Refuses any assistance or payment for going up and beyond. Because life does have to go on.

A Leadership mentor reading me this quote from To Kill A Mockingbird, “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what."
It made me cry, and not really understand why anyone could count me brave instead of just stupid.

My loving husband. we have laughed, he has watched me moan and cry and we drank and we remained quiet to process and repeated. Driving around just to do something but having nowhere to go. We thankfully are bonding instead of pulling away.

He went back to work today. I feel terrible for him because I begged him to tell his work..and normally such a private person he finally did, only to now deal with (I am sure) "the look" and the questions and the "how is she doing?"

How is she doing? Processing, truly going through the stages of all grief but adding fury, disbelief and a little loss in faith and humanity. Praying instead to Karma this time that it will take care of this unbelievable nightmare we are living. Not feeling very brave at all.

NEW Wine Launch from Columbia Crest: ‘H3’ Sauvignon Blanc

It has been a lazy weekend, full of laying around and doing a whole lot of nothing but cooking and drinking wine. I got quite the delivery last week of spring release wine from Columbia Crest! Holiday weekend indeed!

Columbia Crest Winery is excited to announce the addition of a new nationally-available wine to the H3 family – H3 Sauvignon Blanc. The 2014 vintage of this wine released on April 1st and 20,000 total cases were produced.

The Columbia Crest 2014 H3 Sauvignon Blanc Horse Heaven Hills opens with citrus aromas followed by a layer of minerality and pear flavors that give way to a crisp, clean finish; it pairs nicely with briny cheeses like Goat’s milk cheese, mild flavored meats and seafood, and richer dishes so that the acidity of the wine shines through. I am on a huge goat cheese, fig , anything kick and have made this recipe a bunch!

Admission: I would have showed you the amazing sauvignon blanc bottle, but my best friend and I polished it off in one sitting (and she ONLY drinks Pinot Grigio)

It is also a great sipper for the spring and summer months.

In addition, we have also recently released several new vintages from the rest of our H3 family of wines. They include:

New Spring Release Wines:

· 2012 H3 Merlot

· 2013 H3 Cabernet Sauvignon

· 2013 H3 Chardonnay

· 2012 H3 Les Chevaux Red Blend

The Columbia Crest 2014 H3 Sauvignon Blanc wine is available and quite affordable  for a suggested retail price of $15 per bottle.

‘Coffee with the Mayor’ Announced

This may be a small town utterance, but one of the best things about living in Ormond Beach Florida is our mayor, Ed Kelley. He is really one of the nicest people I know.

From the Ormond Beach Observer-Mayor Ed Kelley and Rick Fraser, executive director of the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce, are no longer going on the road.

In the past year, they traveled once per month to various businesses to keep lines of communication open between the business community and the city. They have recently decided it would be more efficient to have a group meeting in the board room at the Chamber of Commerce, 165 W. Granada Blvd. Starting April 13, they will meet in a new format called “Coffee with the Mayor.”

“We found that we could visit just so many businesses in an afternoon, and it was hard to arrange with our schedules,” Fraser said.

They plan on meeting at 8 a.m. on the second Monday of each month for about an hour. Fraser said Einstein Bros. Bagels, 110 S. Nova Road, has offered to supply bagels and coffee, and snacks will be provided by Edible Arrangements, 128 N. Nova Road.

Kelley said talking to the business executives gives him a good barometer on the local business community, and group discussions may spur new ideas.

Fraser said that in the past meetings, he found positive attitudes about the economy. “They were generally upbeat,” he said. “They were very happy about the new landscaping.”

He said the meetings are beneficial in finding ways to help the business community.

Fraser said if business people are interested in attending, they should call him at 677-3454.

Oh, Hey Blog...

So, if I look far back enough...it may be weeks and weeks where I actually blogged. Not bullshit blogged, or promotionally blogged, or love my charity blogged (which I do!). I truly have not utilized this blog, my passion for the one reason why I started this in the first place.

So, I went to my ladies at BlogHer and grabbed a writing prompt-because I just want to write SOMETHING!

How do you determine what is worth reporting from your life since not every moment of your day ends up on your blog?

Ooh this is a good one. My best friend just told me that she doesn't read blogs very often because "seriously how much can I read about someone rambling on and on about herself" Ha! It's a fine line, isn't it?

I mean, I have a ton of things I could tell you...partially because I don't want to forget this time in my life.

Like, do you what it feels like to countdown for something that is the biggest thing you have ever done? Eighty Nine days and my life will change. And, I can't really talk about it...so says my lawyer. And my anxiety... and my heart.

Or because of this, I have kidney stones. And some sort of gastro disease. And I haven't eaten in two days, without visiting vomit village. So, what if not everything does not end up on the blog? What, as a blogger is real, and what is only what I think you want to read. The struggle is real...ha ha!

I think that there is a fine line between diary and blog. I think a play by play would be boring, but there is also a lot of self serving stuff that needs to be left off your prattle. I am not Oprah and I am not that interesting.

Looking forward to a great weekend and I hope you all are too
xo

The High Heel Coalition Launches First Event with Sold Out Attendance

I am a very happy girl this morning! One of my favorite bloggers and authors, Kimberly Wilson in 2006 hosted a Chari-TEA and when I was chosen as one of her guest editors for her latest book Anthology  I was reminded of her event and thought what a great idea it would be if I could pull it off.

I had an idea of The High Heel Coalition, but sadly at first just the name and the logo..not a clue what I wanted to do with it. It occurred to me that our town in Volusia County could use an extra boost in fun events like Chari-TEA and other unique non-profit events. Ah! An idea and a plan! New venture launched!

The first event was yesterday, a Chari-TEA to benefit Dining For Women. It was held at Mia Dona's market, which is an adorable luncheonette that I wrote about here, run by the most generous soul Dona Olsen who graciously opened on a Saturday for us.

The response was overwhelming, it sold out in a week and we raised some serious cash for the cause! This makes for a great Saturday. Off to write Thank yous! Have a great Sunday!

Snappers, My New Addiction

You know I am smart enough to not give up chocolate for Lent, right? I don't crave it too much., anyway so that doesn't seem to be a big enough sacrifice. How thankful am I that I had the opportunity to try a couple bags of Snappers? I nearly ate a full bag in one sitting. Truly sad admission that this will get me near any bikini any time soon!  Snappers are the perfect blend of creamy caramel, rich chocolate, and the salty crunch of pretzels. Pick them up at your Target store and kill me later!

Five Reasons to Run (at all)

Today I linked up with Eat, Pray, Run DC and You Signed Up for What, and Mar on the Run for this fun Friday Five

Happy Friday! This morning, there is absolutely no heat in the air. I think we are finally getting some fall like mornings. This makes for the PERFECT running weather. I've told you before that I am not a big fan of running in very hot or very cold temps so this is right up my alley. It will be nice to get back in the swing of things. This Friday Five is easy for me, because there are so many reasons to run.

1. Amazing Attitude Adjuster-If you had a bad day, or you feel off-grab those running shoes and take a jaunt. I promise you will feel better. When you run, you force your body to exert excess energy and hormones. Bad stuff out, good stuff in.  You will find that after only a few minutes of running, your brain will start to secrete hormones that naturally improve your mood.

2. Time to figure the world out-I think a lot when I run, I hold conversations with myself and try to solve the world's problems one at a time. It keeps my mind off when I am ready to stop going another 1/2 mile.

3. Drink that Pumpkin Latte, eat that cake. Not in excess, of course, but you burn a great amount of calories when you take your jaunt! So, the moment on the lips lifetime on your bum mentality can be relaxed just a wee bit if you get that heart rate up.

4. Achieve Internal Goals. I am insanely competitive with myself when I run, I am sure this is annoying but I post my graph on Instagram and Twitter when I run to keep myself accountable. I know if I am going slow, I am not going out like a fool-I need to pick it up. I am surprised how hard I am on myself.

5. Music Music Ooh Ooh-NOTHING matches great jams than a good run. My running playlist makes me sad if I listen to it when I am not running. It is a nice mix of old school rap and new pop jams. And yes, sometimes I sing. Loudly. Actually, I always feel bad when I am running past those cute walking senior citizens and there is

For once some of the facts mentioned isn't drivel from my head, I found them here.

Actor Vince Vaughn Named Grand Marshal for 57th Annual DAYTONA 500

Star of 20th Century Fox’s Upcoming ‘Unfinished Business’ to Deliver Starting Command for the DAYTONA 500

Vince Vaughn, the star of 20th Century Fox’s and New Regency’s upcoming comedy “Unfinished Business,” in theaters everywhere March 6, will serve as Grand Marshal for the 57th annual DAYTONA 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Sunday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. ET on FOX from Daytona International Speedway. “The Great American Race” will also broadcast live on FOX Deportes, Motor Racing Network, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio with additional coverage on NASCAR.com.

As Grand Marshal, Vaughn will announce the famous four words in motorsports, “Drivers, start your engines.”  Along with the starting command, Vaughn will participate in pre-race ceremonies and ride in one of the Grand Marshal cars during the pace laps prior to the green flag of the 200-lap, 500-mile race.

“We are thrilled to welcome Vince Vaughn as Grand Marshal for the DAYTONA 500,” Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said.  “We look forward to hearing Vince Vaughn’s command as we kick off the new NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season in front of hundreds of thousands of fans and millions more watching on FOX.”

“Last year was an exciting one for NASCAR and I can’t wait to help kick off the 2015 season as the DAYTONA 500 Grand Marshal,” Vaughn said. “The DAYTONA 500 is one of the biggest events in all of sports and I feel honored to be able to be a part of it in it in such a major way.”
In “Unfinished Business,” a hard-working small business owner (portrayed by Vaughn) and his two associates (Tom Wilkinson, Dave Franco) travel to Europe to close the most important deal of their lives.  But what began as a routine business trip goes off the rails in every imaginable – and unimaginable – way, including unplanned stops at a massive sex fetish event and a global economic summit.  The film is directed by Ken Scott, written by Steven Conrad, and produced by Arnon Milchan, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and Anthony Katagas.

Urban Tide, Hyatt Orlando's Newest Restaurant

After attending a long day of inspiring Leadership action at the Junior League Fall Leadership in Orlando, we had the privilege of dining at Hyatt Orlando's newest venture Urban Tide. When we visited, in December we were told that they would soon be premiering their new restaurant and we would have to come back to check it out. Check it out we did!

Our waiter Humberto was amazing, we explained to him that we had spaghetti brain and please bring forward the red wine in copious amounts. It was one of those evenings! I was really happy that I was at Urban Tide, because wine is something they do QUITE well. They had many selections by the glass, as well as an insane selection of bottle choices for us to choose from.

If you are conferencing in Orlando, its a short walk from the Orlando Convention Center and trust me, this is the way to end your day. I know that we are lucky, as we are conference nerds....especially when it comes to the Junior League...but conferences can be yawn fests. Having terrible conference food, we were HANGRY. Hungry, and a little angry at being hungry...but the food came out quick and each entree was better than the last. We are still talking about the au gratin potatoes!

My friend Amy and I dined on some of the new dishes that Urban Tide, happy to report that the staff and Chef Jared is still there, just shook it up a little from the old concept. Check out what we feasted on!

Asparagus and Sweet Corn Risotto | Mascarpone Cheese | Baby Tomatoes

Ceviche | Citrus Marinated Florida Sea Bass | Serrano Spiked Rock Shrimp

Loch Duart Salmon | Sustainable Scotland Loch Caught

New England Sea Scallops | Juicy and Creamy Texture |

Flash-Fried Brussels Sprouts | Aged Balsamic

Four Year Aged Cheddar Au Gratin Potatoes

A little info about the new restaurant: From Florida’s bountiful coast, chic coastal cuisine and the freshest seafood is served at Urban Tide.

Seasonal favorites are celebrated, and elevated with bold flavors served in a stylish setting. With its dark wood furnishings and modern décor, Urban Tide offers diners a quiet, understated elegance highlighted by picturesque views of the Grotto Pool.

Chef Jared Gross brings Florida’s local seafood flavors to life with his modern twist on coastal favorites. Pair lunch or dinner with a classic or our current take on favorite handcrafted cocktails, or select from a distinctive collection of craft beers and fine wines.

Fashion and Knowledge for the Super Bowl for the Modern Girl

Assumedly, I am a girl. But, when it comes to sports I know why my uncle is so happy to have me around at all times when watching sports. I don't know everything but I sure know enough to be welcomed to any sports event with boys. In fact, during college season I am normally the only lady present.  I learned from listening and being a fan, but what if you need a crash course?

Forget the chocolate-covered strawberry footballs – the best thing you can bring to a Super Bowl party is your arsenal of football knowledge. And since women represent over 45 percent of the NFL’s viewing audience, a new book from Vanessa-Franchesca "VF" Castro The Modern Girls’ Guide to the Gridiron needs to be in your arsenal. Her goal is to make it easier for women and girls to understand and relate to the sport they love.

This book is great for:
  • Decoding Sports Talk: Includes a glossary of football terms every fan should know
  • Any football fan wanting to learn about the world’s “manliest” sport and its histories, traditions and scandals through the eyes of a female reporter
  • Connecting with a sports-minded partner: Learning more about the sport that your significant other loves (TMGGTTG has been called “the best marriage book ever”)
  • The perfect guide for mothers trying to learn more about the sport as they support their sons and fathers trying to relate their love of the sport to their daughters

The 49th Super Bowl will take place on February 1. To celebrate, VF is kicking off a giveaway and blog tour for The Modern Girls’ Guide to the Gridiron, a comprehensive guide to the game from a woman’s point of view, written by sports journalist Vanessa-Franchesca “VF” Castro. Formerly a makeup artist, Vanessa also puts together Game Day Looks – both beauty and fashion – on her blog.

Vanessa took some time our of her busy schedule to give you some ideas on what to wear for the big game!

Seattle Seahawks: For the first look, I styled a pair of skinny jeans (which are a closet staple), and a neon green embellished blouse by 3:1 Phillip Lim, followed by a pair of navy blue espadrilles from Michael Kors. The second look is a little more fashion forward, but it's still a classic style. I paired a gorgeous blue ribbed knit sweater by Yves Saint Laurent Vintage with a playful bright green skater skirt by Go Jane. And for accessories, I paired a sparkly bib necklace by BaubleBar, with grey booties from Steve Madden, and then a matching grey Debutante clutch by my favorite, Henri Bendel.

New England Patriots: For the first look, I paired basic skinny jeans with a white tank top, and a red sweater by KAOS, with leopard booties by Ella Moss (similar), and a necklace by BaubleBar. For the second look, I styled the same skinny jeans with this white dolman sleeve sweater by Helmut Lang, with white booties (similar), and accessorized with a red Ralph Lauren scarf, and this "timeless" nautical-style watch by Daniel Wellington -- a perfect nod to New England style.  If you go with the basic colors of each franchise, your rooting interests will be easily differentiated, but the goal is to have fun -- both with your fashion choices, and during the game itself.
